As part of the H.E.R.O. Program, educators will engage in professional development via a facilitated, documentary-style video training course. This course is designed to teach all staff members active shooter survivability skills and includes additional learning modules that teach educators how to utilize H.E.R.O. skills and implement the H.E.R.O. curriculum.
We know your time is valuable. That’s why we offer optional Professional Development Units (PDU) for educators participating in the H.E.R.O. Program. These 15-hour Carnegie units are offered by Brandman University, an industry leader in continuing higher education.
The H.E.R.O. Program includes a student accessibility guide designed to help educators provide active shooter survival skills to students with disabilities. This guide was designed by school psychologists and special education experts to provide equity and access for as many students as possible.
The H.E.R.O. Program addresses active shooter threats by seamlessly combining the best practices of safety and education. And because teachers are such a critical part of this program, it is intentionally designed to be teacher friendly and requires minimal preparation. H.E.R.O. lessons meet English Language Arts standards and can augment existing social emotional learning programs.

English Language Arts (ELA) standards and critical thinking concepts are incorporated throughout the H.E.R.O. Program, limiting impact on instructional hours. Lessons can be easily adapted to accommodate cultural differences within large districts. K-12 lessons available.
Our private school curriculum mirrors the standards of the public school curriculum, while taking into account the sensitivity of your specific school family and their beliefs, practices, and priorities. K-12 lessons available.
The H.E.R.O. After School Program is designed to teach 21st century learning concepts in a simple, condensed and interactive format. The program is equally effective for religious institutions and community groups. K-8 activity plans available.
The vital leadership role that is required of teachers is all the more critical during a violent intruder situation. But, because danger is not contained to classrooms, the H.E.R.O. program includes tools for school-family connection. Both the school and the family will learn empowerment strategies that will keep them safe in school and beyond.

The H.E.R.O. after-school program is specifically designed to teach students in a more simple, condensed, and interactive format. The after-school program is equally effective for religious institutions and community groups.
